La Fonte Cont. (again) The Palazzo was all a-glimmer with light and color that night. Candlelight and cheerful music poured out of every door and window, and a vase of sweet, hothouse roses stood on every table. Young ladies in sparkling gowns and gentlemen with colorful, Venetian masks whirled about on a floor of polished marble while ladies and gentlemen of a more distinguished age fanned themselves or discussed the unique style of molding on the ceilings.La Fonte Cont. The grey-eyed man stepped through the main door and into what seemed like a dream. So dazzled was he by the spectacle that he completely ignored the poor footman who tried to take his cape. Perhaps he would ha


La Fonte cont. By the time the sun had bid Tuscany farewell and sunk beneath the horizon, the courtyard was deserted. The more privileged and fortunate were en route to the Masked Ball, while the less idle were just settling into bed and blowing out their candles. The Moon hung high in the sky and her clear, silvery light made the sculpted men and women of the fountain seem like shining angels. The cobblestones talked over one another, trying to be heard. They were relaying accounts of the Ball from the paving stones and gargoyles near the Palazzo. La Fonte There was once a fountain. It was quite unremarkable, really, when compared to its fellows in Rome, but the more fanciful people of the world might call it "charming". It depicted a ring of handsome, classical (and scantily clad) young men and women in various classical poses. They supported a great stone basin upon their stony shoulders, and from it's scalloped edges water trickled into a pool at their stony feet. The Toscani that lived and worked in the villa in which it stood, however, would have been hard pressed to describe it with any degree of enthusiasm or praise.
